Dear Recipient,

The HAQAA (Harmonisation of African Higher Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation) Initiative, funded by the European Union in partnership with the African Union, has been established to support the development of a harmonised quality assurance and accreditation system at institutional, national, regional and Pan-African continental level.

The Initiative is being implemented between December 2015 until November 2018 by a consortium consisting of the University of Barcelona (coordinator), the Association of African Universities (AAU), the European University Association (EUA), the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

One of the activities in the Initiative is the drafting of the African Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ASG-QA). It is aimed to support higher education institutions and quality assurance agencies in Africa in implementing good practices for quality assurance, applying the standards and guidelines formulated by competent authorities in higher education, developing adequate internal quality assurance mechanisms in higher education institutions that align to international best practices; and assisting higher education institutions in assessing their own quality through self-assessment. The ASG-QA will be a key reference tool of the Pan-African Quality Assurance and Accreditation Framework (PAQAF), which has been endorsed by the African Union.

The ASG-QA has been drafted by a selected group of higher education and quality assurance experts, representing different regions of the continent. Before engaging in the drafting of this document, they carefully studied the existing standards and guidelines in different African countries and regions and elsewhere in the world, with an objective of building up what presently exists and finding a common denominator for different African higher education systems.

With this consultation, in order to strengthen and validate the contents of the ASG-QA among its potential users, we would like to hear your views about the current draft. Through this link, you may find the draft document with specific questions for your feedback:
