The Summits of Heads of States and Governments take place traditionally every three years alternatively in Africa and Europe. These Summits take stock of the progress made in the implementation of commitments made and provide political guidance for further work. The last EU-Africa Summit was held in April 2014, Brussels, Belgium under the subject “Investing in People, Prosperity and Peace”. During this fourth meeting, the Heads of State and Governments of Africa and the EU adopted the “Brussels Declaration” and a Roadmap for 2014-2017, with the objective of addressing common challenges and bringing concrete benefits to citizens of both continents in accordance with the Joint Africa-EU Strategy (JAES).
Prior to this event, the other three previous summits were carried out Cairo, Egypt(2000); Lisbon, Portugal (2007) and Tripoli, Libya (2010) respectively.
Same as previous summits, this summit will not only focus on the challenges both continents have in common, like peace and security, but also center around common interests shared by both parties, especially sustainable growth that is inclusive and generates employment for youths.
