The third HAQAA Advisory Board (AB) meeting was held from the 17th to the 18th of January 2017 in Accra, Ghana. AB members discussed the 2017 Calendar of events wand put special emphasis on the development of the African Standards Guidelines for Quality Assurance in Africa (ASG-QA) – one of the major outputs of the HAQAA Initiative, the African Quality Rating Mechanism (AQRM) institutional evaluations that will take place throughout the first half of 2017. The AB also discussed the outcomes of the first phase of the HAQAA Training Course, debating how such a Training Course could be utilized to promote the Pan African Quality Assurance and Accreditation Framework (PAQAF) across the continent.
On the second day of the meeting, the Technical Working Group (TWG) appointed to draft the ASG-QA joined the AB for a joint discussion on the draft framework of the ASG-QA and how the document should be consulted across the continent. Valuable information and advice was received from the AB members, who represent critical regional and national stakeholders in the African QA landscape. All the delegates readily agreed that there is need to disseminate information and sensitize the African Higher Education community regarding the existence of the ASGs and that the ASG-QA should reflect the diverse standards already used in African countries and regions.
