A HAQAA Follow-Up Workshop to the 1st Training Course is successfully concluded

Last 24-25 April 2018 took place in Cairo, Egypt the HAQAA Follow-Up Workshop to the first HAQAA Training Course. Around 35 participants from 25 countries attended this interactive workshop hosted byNAQAAE, the National Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council of Egypt. The aim of this event was to maintain the momentum generated by the HAQAA Training Course, and provide its ‘graduates’ with a means to continue the work defined in their PAPs and as HAQAA ambassadors.

The follow up workshop targeted participants who concluded the different phases of the training Course on ‘Developing a Common Language for Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Africa’ with representatives from ministries, higher education commissions or accreditation agencies of all African countries.

Participants had the opportunity to discuss and contribute to a number of issues such as the African Standards and Guidelines for QA (ASG-QA), a proposed methodology for reviewing and evaluating quality assurance agencies in Africa which has been developed by the Technical Working Group and will be piloted during 2018 and an update on the Personal Action Plans (PAPs) that were conducted during the Training Course.

A case studies session on the ESG in Practice in National QA agencies in Europe was held with the participation of Eva Ferreira, Director of Unibasq, and Board Member of ENQA and Kerstin Fink, CEO of the Foundation for International Business Administration Accreditation (FIBAA).  Another case study on the East African QA handbook in practice in national QA agencies was presented by Pamela Tibihikirra-Kalyegira, Director of Quality Assurance and Accreditation at the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), Uganda.

Finally, participants also brainstormed concrete actions for maintaining the HAQAA/PAQAF network going forward. As a main outcome,  participants volunteered to continue to support continental harmonisation actions in the future, whether through promoting the ASG-QA or taking part in QA agency review panels in regions different from their own.
